AI-suggested
Until an official patch is released, organizations should implement specific mitigations to reduce exposure. These include restricting network access to MonetDB servers by using firewalls or network segmentation to limit connections only to trusted hosts. Monitoring and logging SQL queries for unusual or malformed statements targeting the dameraulevenshtein function can help detect attempted exploitation. Applying rate limiting or query timeouts may mitigate the impact of crafted queries designed to cause resource exhaustion. Administrators should also review and harden database user permissions to minimize exposure, even though authentication is not required for exploitation, to reduce attack surface. Keeping MonetDB installations updated and subscribing to vendor security advisories will ensure timely application of patches once available. Additionally, consider deploying intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) with signatures tuned to detect anomalous SQL activity related to this vulnerability.
Description
An issue in the dameraulevenshtein component of MonetDB Server v11.49.1 allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via crafted SQL statements.
