AI-suggested

Until an official patch is released, organizations should implement strict network-level access controls to limit exposure of MonetDB servers to untrusted networks. Deploy firewall rules or VPNs to restrict database access only to authorized users and systems. Monitor database logs and network traffic for unusual or malformed SQL queries that may indicate exploitation attempts. Consider deploying Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) or SQL query analyzers that can detect and block suspicious query patterns targeting the merge_table_prune_and_unionize component. Regularly back up critical data to enable rapid recovery in case of service disruption. Engage with MonetDB maintainers or community forums for updates on patches or workarounds. Where possible, isolate MonetDB instances in segmented network zones to reduce blast radius. Finally, prepare incident response plans specifically addressing database DoS scenarios.

Description

An issue in the merge_table_prune_and_unionize component of MonetDB Server v11.49.1 allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via crafted SQL statements.
