What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that resets the message reception state before parsing MST sideband messages, eliminating the race condition. Users should apply the official Linux kernel patches that address this issue. Since this fix is included in stable kernel updates, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended mitigation.

Description

CVE-2024-57876 is a race condition vulnerability in the Linux kernel's DRM DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport (dp_mst) code. It occurs when the MST topology is removed during the reception of certain sideband messages, leading to a race between resetting message reception state and parsing the message. This race can cause memory corruption. The issue is fixed by resetting the message reception state before parsing messages to avoid the race condition.
