AI-suggested
Apply the official fixes by upgrading Grafana to versions 11.0.5, 11.0.6, 11.1.6, 11.1.7, 11.2.1, or 11.2.2. These versions contain patches that address the code injection vulnerability. If upgrading is not immediately possible, restrict user permissions to prevent untrusted users from having VIEWER or higher access. Additionally, ensure the duckdb binary is not present in Grafana's $PATH to reduce attack surface. Since public exploit code exists, timely patching is strongly recommended.
Description
CVE-2024-9264 is a critical code injection vulnerability in Grafana's SQL Expressions experimental feature. It allows users with VIEWER or higher permissions to execute unsanitized duckdb queries, leading to command injection and local file inclusion. The vulnerability requires the duckdb binary to be present in Grafana's $PATH, which is not included by default. Multiple Grafana versions 11.0.0, 11.1.0, and 11.2.0 are affected. Fixed versions include 11.0.5, 11.0.6, 11.1.6, 11.1.7, 11.2.1, and 11.2.2. Public exploit code is available via Metasploit.
