A security update for grub2 is available from Red Hat for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9. Users should apply the official patches provided in the Red Hat advisory RHSA-2025:6990 to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the vendor-supplied update.
Description
CVE-2025-0690 is an integer overflow vulnerability in the read command of grub2 that can lead to an out-of-bounds write on the heap. This occurs when a large enough input causes the input length variable to overflow during buffer reallocation. The flaw may allow corruption of grub's internal critical data and potentially bypass secure boot mechanisms. Red Hat has issued a security update addressing this and related vulnerabilities in grub2 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.
