AI-suggested
A patch is available and included in multiple Linux kernel releases starting from 5.4.0-1146.156~18.04.1 and others as listed in the established facts. Users should update their Linux kernel to one of the fixed versions to resolve this issue. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the fix. No additional mitigation actions are necessary as the issue is addressed by the official kernel update.
Description
CVE-2025-21866 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's PowerPC code patching subsystem related to Kernel Address Sanitizer (KASAN) false positives. The issue arises because the text patching area was incorrectly flagged as VM_ALLOC, causing KASAN to report out-of-bounds memory access during kernel boot on PowerMac G4 systems. The flaw was fixed by not marking this area as VM_ALLOC, allowing proper memory handling and preventing KASAN hits.
