Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: CGM
Product: CGM CLININET

Description

CVE-2025-30046 is a critical vulnerability in the CGM CLININET application server where HL7 communication processes run with root privileges while handling untrusted data. This allows an attacker on an adjacent network to send malicious data to these processes and achieve remote code execution with root privileges. The vulnerability affects versions up to 2026.MS3. A patch is available, and the product is a cloud service with vendor-managed remediation.

Technical Analysis

The CGM CLININET application server has multiple HL7 communication processes running with root privileges that process untrusted external data. This improper privilege management (CWE-250) enables an attacker on an adjacent network to remotely execute code with root privileges by sending crafted data to these HL7 processes. The vulnerability affects versions up to and including 2026.MS3. The CVSS 4.0 score is 9.0 (critical), reflecting the high impact and ease of exploitation. The product is cloud-hosted, and the vendor manages remediation.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in remote code execution with root privileges on the CGM CLININET application server. This allows full control over the affected system, potentially compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system and data.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available for this vulnerability. Since CGM CLININET is a cloud-hosted service, the vendor manages remediation server-side. Users should verify with the vendor that their environment has been updated to a patched version beyond 2026.MS3 or that the vendor has applied the fix.
