AI-suggested

An official fix is available and should be applied by updating to a patched Linux kernel version. Rebooting without the fix will not prevent the issue, as the fatal trap occurs once after power-up. Users should apply the security update provided by their Linux distribution, such as the Ubuntu security notice USN-7594-1, which includes this fix.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's net/niu driver was fixed to prevent a fatal trap on SPARC systems caused by improper handling of MSIX ENTRY_DATA fields. The issue occurs because the niu driver must write to the ENTRY_DATA register before reading other registers in each MSI-X vector entry, or else a fatal trap results. This problem only manifests once after power-up and does not occur on reboot without the fix. The vulnerability affects specific linux-azure kernel versions and has a medium severity rating with an impact on system availability.
