AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented and is available in the Linux kernel versions identified by the fixed commit hashes. Users and administrators should apply these patches or upgrade to a fixed kernel version to resolve the issue. Since this is a kernel-level bug, updating the kernel is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are indicated or required.

Description

CVE-2025-39835 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's XFS filesystem code where disk errors returning ENODATA are incorrectly propagated into extended attribute (xattr) code. This can cause incorrect error reporting to userspace or a kernel oops due to null pointer dereference in xfs_attr_leaf_get(). The issue arises because ENODATA has a specific meaning in xattr code (attribute not found), but disk medium errors can also return ENODATA, leading to confusion and potential crashes. A patch has been applied to fix this by preventing disk errors from leaking as ENODATA in xattr code.
