A patch is available and included in updated Linux kernel versions listed in the fixedVersions field. Users should update their systems to these fixed kernel versions and reboot to apply the changes. Due to ABI changes, recompilation and reinstallation of third-party kernel modules may be required. Follow vendor instructions in the Ubuntu security advisory USN-8033-1 for proper update procedures.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's i40e driver was fixed by correcting input validation logic for action_meta to prevent out-of-bounds (OOB) dereference. This flaw could allow an attacker with limited privileges to cause memory corruption leading to high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Multiple affected versions of the linux-hwe-edge kernel prior to specific fixed releases are impacted. The issue is addressed by patches available in updated kernel versions.
