AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The Ubuntu security advisory USN-8029-1 includes this fix among multiple kernel security updates. Users should upgrade to kernel versions 6.8.0-1049.49 or later (and corresponding patched versions) to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official update.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel affecting the riscv architecture's stacktrace functionality has been resolved. The issue involved KASAN checks being performed on non-current tasks during stack unwinding, which could trigger out-of-bounds errors. This flaw was similar to a previously fixed issue on x86 architectures. The vulnerability is addressed by disabling KASAN checks for non-current tasks on RISC-V. Multiple Linux kernel subsystems and architectures were updated in the related security release.
