AI-suggested
- Restrict Redis access strictly to trusted and authenticated users, employing strong authentication mechanisms such as ACLs (Access Control Lists) and robust password policies.
- Implement network-level controls to limit Redis access to known IP addresses and internal networks only, using firewalls and VPNs.
- Monitor Redis server memory usage and set up alerts for unusual spikes that could indicate exploitation attempts.
- Apply rate limiting or command filtering where possible to prevent abuse of multi-bulk commands.
- Regularly update Redis to the latest versions once patches addressing this vulnerability become available.
- Conduct periodic audits of Redis configurations to ensure no anonymous or weakly authenticated access is permitted.
- Consider deploying Redis in isolated environments or containers to limit the blast radius of potential attacks.
- Educate administrators and developers about the risks of this vulnerability and the importance of secure Redis deployment practices.
Description
Redis through 7.4.3 allows memory consumption via a multi-bulk command composed of many bulks, sent by an authenticated user. This occurs because the server allocates memory for the command arguments of every bulk, even when the command is skipped because of insufficient permissions.
