Technical Analysis

CVE-2025-60487 describes a segmentation violation in the gf_isom_get_esd function located in /isomedia/isom_read.c within the GPAC Project's MP4Box software. Versions prior to 2.5 are affected. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by providing a specially crafted XML file, which causes the application to crash, leading to a denial of service.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation causes a denial of service by crashing the MP4Box application due to a segmentation fault. There is no indication of code execution or data corruption beyond service disruption.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided. Users should upgrade to GPAC Project MP4Box version 2.5 or later once available. Until then, avoid processing untrusted XML files with affected versions to mitigate risk. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
