Technical Analysis

CVE-2025-60489 is a vulnerability in GPAC Project's MP4Box component, specifically in the dasher_insert_timeline_entry function located in /filters/dasher.c. The issue is a NULL pointer dereference that occurs when handling specially crafted MP4 files. This vulnerability affects versions prior to 2.5 of GPAC Project/MP4Box and can cause the application to crash, leading to a denial of service.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability causes a denial of service by crashing the MP4Box application when it processes a maliciously crafted MP4 file. There is no indication of code execution or data corruption beyond service disruption.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided. Users should upgrade to GPAC Project/MP4Box version 2.5 or later once available. Until then, avoid processing untrusted MP4 files to mitigate risk. Monitor vendor advisories for updates on remediation.
