Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 21:17:09 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: python-pillow
Product: Pillow

Description

A vulnerability in the python-pillow Pillow library versions 11.2.1 up to but not including 13.0.0 allows sensitive information disclosure. The issue arises from improper handling of image row alignment during Arrow export, causing uninitialized or stale memory to be included in the exported buffer. This can lead to leakage of pixel data or other process memory between users. The vulnerability is fixed in version 13.0.0.

Technical Analysis

Pillow, a Python imaging library, versions 11.2.1 through 12.x have a vulnerability where the Arrow export function assumes image rows are tightly contiguous. When PILLOW_ALIGNMENT causes aligned linesizes with padding or offsets, the export reads from im->blocks[0].ptr without accounting for this, resulting in the Arrow buffer containing uninitialized padding bytes, memory preceding the first row, or stale heap contents from previously freed images. This can disclose sensitive pixel data or other memory contents across users. The issue is addressed in Pillow version 13.0.0.

Potential Impact

Applications that use Pillow with alignment configured and export images to Arrow format may inadvertently expose sensitive pixel data or other process memory contents to unauthorized users. This is a medium severity information disclosure vulnerability with a CVSS 4.0 score of 6.3.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to Pillow version 13.0.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are specified or required.
