Technical Analysis

CVE-2025-60497 is a software vulnerability in GPAC Project/MP4Box prior to version 2.5. The flaw is a segmentation violation in the GetESD function within the /isomedia/track.c source file. An attacker can exploit this by supplying a specially crafted MP4 file, causing the application to crash and resulting in a Denial of Service condition.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation causes the GPAC Project/MP4Box application to crash due to a segmentation fault, leading to Denial of Service. There is no information indicating further impact such as code execution or data leakage.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided. Users should upgrade to version 2.5 or later once available or apply any vendor advisories if published. Until then, avoid processing untrusted MP4 files with affected versions of GPAC Project/MP4Box. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
