AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied by updating to fixed Linux kernel versions. The affected versions are prior to 6.8.0-1049.49, 6.8.0-1050.53~22.04.1, 6.8.0-1051.57~22.04.1, 6.8.0-1052.55~22.04.1, and 6.8.0-106.106~22.04.1. Users should upgrade to versions including the fix. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
A soft lockup vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ftrace_module_enable function was resolved. The issue caused kernel panic when loading modules with many traceable functions, due to prolonged time spent in RCU critical sections with disabled preemption. This vulnerability was fixed by adding a conditional reschedule call (cond_resched()) to prevent the soft lockup. Multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1049.49 through 6.8.0-1052.55~22.04.1 are affected. The fix is available and included in updated kernel releases.
