AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to resolve this vulnerability. The vendor advisory confirms that this issue has been fixed. Users should update their Linux kernel to a version that includes this fix to prevent exploitation.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's rtl8723bs staging driver was fixed to address an out-of-bounds read in the rtw_get_ie() Information Element parser. The parser previously trusted the length byte of each IE without validating that the IE body fit within the remaining frame buffer, allowing malformed frames to cause out-of-bounds reads or infinite loops. This issue has been patched to validate IE lengths properly before processing. The vulnerability affects specific Linux kernel versions and has a high CVSS score of 8.8. No known exploits are reported in the wild.
