VulnerabilityCVE-2025-71216cvecve-2025-71216
Published: Thu May 21 2026 (05/21/2026, 13:02:52 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Trend Micro, Inc.
Product: TrendAI Apex One (Mac)

Description

A time-of-check time-of-use vulnerability in the Trend Micro Apex One (mac) agent cache mechanism could allow a local attacker to escalate privileges on affected installations. Please note: an attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability. The following information is provided as informational only for CVE references, as these were addressed already via ActiveUpdate/SaaS updates in mid to late 2025 (SaaS 2507 & 2005 Yearly Release).

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves a TOCTOU race condition in the cache mechanism of Trend Micro Apex One (Mac) agent. Exploitation requires prior local code execution with low privileges, which could then be leveraged to gain elevated privileges on the affected system. The issue was resolved by Trend Micro via updates distributed through ActiveUpdate and SaaS releases in 2025, specifically SaaS 2507 and the 2005 Yearly Release.

Potential Impact

If exploited, a local attacker with low-privileged code execution could escalate privileges on the affected macOS system running Trend Micro Apex One. This could lead to unauthorized actions at a higher privilege level. However, exploitation requires initial local access and code execution capability, limiting the attack surface. No known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

The vulnerability has been addressed by Trend Micro through ActiveUpdate and SaaS updates released in mid to late 2025 (SaaS 2507 and 2005 Yearly Release). Users should ensure their Trend Micro Apex One (Mac) installations are fully updated to these or later versions. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying these official updates.
