Published: 10/15/2026 (10/15/2026, 16:03:50 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: getkin
Product: kin-openapi

Description

A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability exists in kin-openapi versions 0.136.0 through 0.148.0. This flaw allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to cause a deterministic nil-pointer panic by sending crafted requests with specific array query parameters or application/x-www-form-urlencoded bodies containing array properties in certain schema compositions. The issue is fixed in version 0.149.0.

Technical Analysis

kin-openapi, a Go library for handling OpenAPI files, contains a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability (CWE-476) in versions from 0.136.0 up to but not including 0.149.0. The vulnerability arises because three openapi3filter decoder paths lack a nil-items guard for legal OpenAPI 3.1 array schemas. An unauthenticated remote client can trigger a nil-pointer panic by sending array query parameters, deepObject query parameters with array properties, or application/x-www-form-urlencoded request bodies with array properties inside allOf, anyOf, or oneOf subschemas. The affected code paths pass a nil items schema into code that dereferences it, causing the panic. This issue was addressed and fixed in version 0.149.0.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker can cause a denial-of-service condition by triggering a deterministic nil-pointer panic in the kin-openapi library. This results in application crashes or service interruptions. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity according to the CVSS vector.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade kin-openapi to version 0.149.0 or later, where this NULL pointer dereference vulnerability has been fixed. No other mitigation is required as the issue is resolved in the official fix.
