This vulnerability is fixed in Git for Windows version 2.55.0.windows.3. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated or required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A vulnerability in Git for Windows versions from 2.44.0.windows.1 up to but not including 2.55.0.windows.3 allows an out-of-bounds write in the git-credential-wincred store operation. This occurs due to improper sizing of a wide-character credential buffer and incorrect byte count usage, causing a two-byte NUL overwrite past the allocated heap memory. This can lead to Windows heap corruption and cause the git credential approve command to report success even though the OAuth credential was not stored. The issue is fixed in version 2.55.0.windows.3.
