AI-suggested

Upgrade Git for Windows to version 2.55.0.windows.3 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is required as the issue is resolved in the official patch.

Description

A vulnerability in Git for Windows versions from 2.43.0.windows.1 up to but not including 2.55.0.windows.3 allows an out-of-bounds write in the git-credential-wincred helper. This occurs when erasing a credential with a password field present, causing a buffer overflow by writing a two-byte NUL past the allocated buffer. The issue can lead to Windows heap corruption and failure to properly delete credentials, although the operation may appear successful. The flaw is fixed in version 2.55.0.windows.3.
