Technical Analysis
This vulnerability involves an allocation of resources without limits or throttling (CWE-770) in the l2cpd process of Juniper Networks Junos OS. An adjacent unauthenticated attacker can exploit this by targeting FNP-enabled Layer 2 interfaces on VPLS routing instances with VLAN-VPLS encapsulation enabled, causing denial of service and l2cpd process restart. The vulnerability affects multiple Junos OS versions across several releases, excluding PTX and SRX Series platforms.
Potential Impact
Exploitation results in denial of service (DoS) due to l2cpd process restart, impacting availability of affected Junos OS devices. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity. The attack requires adjacency and no privileges or user interaction.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Users should monitor Juniper Networks advisories for updates and consider disabling the FNP feature on VPLS routing instances with VLAN-VPLS encapsulation if feasible until a fix is available.
