CVE-2026-102050: CWE-121 Stack-based Buffer Overflow in Juniper Networks Junos OS
Description
CVE-2026-102050 is a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the l2cpd daemon of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. It allows an unauthenticated adjacent attacker to cause a denial of service by sending crafted LLDP packets on an interface configured for LLDP. Repeated exploitation can disrupt LLDP and other Layer 2 control protocols on the device.

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability involves a stack-based buffer overflow in the l2cpd daemon responsible for Layer 2 control-plane processing in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. An unauthenticated attacker with adjacent network access can send specially crafted LLDP packets to trigger the overflow, causing a denial of service. The flaw affects multiple versions of Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved as specified, potentially impacting network stability by disrupting LLDP and related Layer 2 protocols.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation results in denial of service affecting Layer 2 control-plane processing, disrupting LLDP and other Layer 2 control protocols across the device. The vulnerability has high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CVSS 8.8) but does not indicate remote code execution or privilege escalation.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, network administrators should consider limiting LLDP exposure to untrusted adjacent networks and monitor for anomalous LLDP traffic to reduce risk.
