Description

CVE-2026-102142 is a high-severity vulnerability in Kiteworks Core where a system notification template is processed by a template engine that evaluates expressions within the template body. An authenticated System Administrator can craft a malicious template that, when the notification is sent, executes operating system commands on the appliance. This vulnerability affects Kiteworks Core versions from 0 up to but not including 9.5.1.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability arises from improper neutralization of special elements in a template engine used by the Kiteworks Core appliance for system notification templates. Because the template engine evaluates expressions contained in the stored template body, an authenticated System Administrator can store a crafted template that leads to remote command execution on the underlying operating system when the notification is triggered. This flaw is tracked as CWE-1336 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.2, indicating high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated System Administrator to execute arbitrary operating system commands on the Kiteworks appliance. This can lead to full compromise of the appliance, impacting confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system and potentially the broader network environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation details are provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict System Administrator access to trusted personnel only and monitor for suspicious template changes.
