CVE-2026-102180: CWE-121 Stack-based Buffer Overflow in Juniper Networks Junos OS
Description
A Stack-based Buffer Overflow vulnerability in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows an attacker with access to a configured BGP peering session to cause a denial of service by sending a crafted BGP route attribute, which is processed while a BGP RIB streaming telemetry subscription is active. This issue does not affect Junos OS versions prior to 22.1R1. This issue does not affect Junos OS Evolved versions prior to 22.1R1-EVO.

Technical Analysis
This vulnerability (CWE-121) exists in the routing protocol daemon (rpd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved. An attacker with access to a configured BGP peering session can send a specially crafted BGP route attribute that triggers a stack-based buffer overflow when processed while a BGP RIB streaming telemetry subscription is active. This results in a denial of service condition. The issue affects multiple versions of Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved starting from 22.1R1 up to but not including various fixed versions listed in the affected versions. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 7.5, indicating high severity, with network attack vector, low attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and impact limited to availability (denial of service).
Potential Impact
An attacker with network access to a configured BGP peering session can cause a denial of service on the affected device by exploiting this vulnerability. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity reported. No known exploits are currently observed in the wild.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. The affected versions are clearly identified, so upgrading to versions beyond the specified fixed releases is recommended once vendor patches are available. Until then, restricting access to BGP peering sessions and disabling BGP RIB streaming telemetry subscriptions if not required may reduce exposure.
