Vendor/Project: Newell Brands
Product: DYMO ID

Description

CVE-2026-102262 is a vulnerability in Newell Brands DYMO ID versions 1.5.1.71 up to but not including 1.6.0. The software resolves its plugin Modules directory relative to the process working directory. An attacker can exploit this by placing a malicious job file alongside malicious modules or DLLs, causing the process working directory to be set to the attacker's folder when the victim opens the file. This results in code execution at the victim's privilege level. The issue is fixed in version 1.6.0.

Technical Analysis

Newell Brands DYMO ID 1.5.1.71 and earlier versions resolve the plugin Modules directory relative to the process working directory. An attacker can craft a job file placed alongside malicious modules or DLLs. When a victim opens this job file, the process working directory changes to the attacker's folder, allowing execution of malicious code with the victim's privileges. This vulnerability is classified as CWE-668 (Exposure of Resource to Wrong Sphere) and CWE-22 (Path Traversal). The vulnerability is addressed in DYMO ID version 1.6.0.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the victim user who opens the malicious job file. This can lead to unauthorized actions within the context of the victim's privileges. The vulnerability requires user interaction (opening the malicious file) and local access to place the malicious files.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade DYMO ID to version 1.6.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are specified by the vendor. Patch status is confirmed as fixed in 1.6.0.
