CVE-2026-102412: CWE-863 Incorrect Authorization in Elastic Kibana
Description
Incorrect Authorization (CWE-863) in Kibana can lead to sensitive information disclosure via Accessing Functionality Not Properly Constrained by ACLs (CAPEC-1). An authenticated Kibana user with limited Fleet management privileges could access sensitive credential material that should be restricted to users with Fleet settings administrative access. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to obtain private cryptographic key material configured for Fleet Server host connections, potentially enabling impersonation of trusted Fleet infrastructure components in deployments where those keys are actively used.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-102412 is a CWE-863 (Incorrect Authorization) vulnerability in Elastic Kibana. It allows an authenticated user with limited Fleet management privileges to bypass access control lists (ACLs) and access sensitive credential material, specifically private cryptographic keys configured for Fleet Server host connections. This unauthorized access could lead to impersonation of trusted Fleet infrastructure components in affected deployments. The vulnerability is present in Kibana versions >=9.3.0 <=9.3.8, >=9.4.0 <=9.4.7, and >=9.5.0 <=9.5.4. The CVSS 3.1 score is 6.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N), reflecting a network attack vector with low attack complexity, requiring low privileges but no user interaction, and resulting in high confidentiality impact without integrity or availability impact.
Potential Impact
An attacker with authenticated access and limited Fleet management privileges can access sensitive private cryptographic key material that should be restricted to administrators. This could allow the attacker to impersonate trusted Fleet infrastructure components, potentially undermining the security of Fleet Server host connections. There is no indication of impact on integrity or availability.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict Fleet management privileges to trusted users only and monitor for unauthorized access attempts. Avoid granting Fleet management privileges to users who do not require them. Follow Elastic's official guidance once published.
