Published: 09/03/2026 (09/03/2026, 18:35:36 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Elastic
Product: Kibana

Description

Incorrect Authorization (CWE-863) in Kibana can lead to privilege escalation via Input Data Manipulation (CAPEC-153). Elasticsearch cluster privilege declarations originating from integration packages were not validated before being used to mint credentials for enrolled Elastic Agents. A user holding Fleet management privileges could therefore cause every Elastic Agent on a targeted policy to receive a credential carrying arbitrarily elevated Elasticsearch cluster privileges, up to and including full cluster administration.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-863) in Kibana arises because Elasticsearch cluster privilege declarations originating from integration packages are not properly validated before being used to mint credentials for enrolled Elastic Agents. As a result, a user holding Fleet management privileges can escalate privileges by causing every Elastic Agent on a targeted policy to receive credentials with elevated Elasticsearch cluster privileges, potentially up to full cluster administration. The issue involves incorrect authorization checks and input data manipulation (CAPEC-153).

Potential Impact

An attacker with Fleet management privileges can escalate their privileges to gain elevated Elasticsearch cluster privileges on Elastic Agents, potentially achieving full cluster administration. This could lead to unauthorized access and control over the Elasticsearch cluster via compromised Elastic Agents.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or temporary workaround has been published at this time.
