Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Eclipse Foundation
Product: Eclipse Vert.x

Description

CVE-2026-102476 is a critical vulnerability in Eclipse Vert.x HTTP client versions 5.0.0 through 5.0.12, 5.1.0 through 5.1.9, and 5.2.0. The issue arises because the SSL context cache key does not fully represent the SSL properties, allowing a client to receive an SSL context with weaker security properties than requested, such as bypassing hostname validation.

Technical Analysis

In Eclipse Vert.x versions 5.0.0 to 5.0.12, 5.1.0 to 5.1.9, and 5.2.0, the HTTP client component uses an SSL context cache keyed for efficiency. However, the cache key does not fully capture the SSL semantics, which can cause a client requesting an SSL context with strict properties (e.g., hostname validation) to receive one with weaker properties (e.g., no hostname validation). This undermines the security guarantees of SSL/TLS connections.

Potential Impact

This vulnerability can lead to clients accepting SSL contexts that do not enforce hostname validation, potentially enabling man-in-the-middle attacks or other SSL/TLS security bypasses. The CVSS 4.0 score is 9.1 (critical), indicating a high-impact security flaw with network attack vector, high complexity, and no privileges or user interaction required.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Users should monitor Eclipse Foundation advisories for updates and apply patches once available.
