Technical Analysis
Nuxt OG Image generates Open Graph images using Vue templates in Nuxt. Versions from 6.2.5 until 6.7.0 have a vulnerability where the dynamic /_og/d/*.png route accepts unsigned requests. The resolvePathCacheKey() function creates cache keys based on the request path, site URL, and normalized rendering options. An unauthenticated attacker can manipulate the title parameter and provide a derived cacheKey to insert attacker-controlled image data into the cache slot used for legitimate Open Graph images. This results in spoofed image content being served to users. The vulnerability is addressed in version 6.7.0.
Potential Impact
An unauthenticated attacker can cause the server to serve spoofed Open Graph images by injecting malicious image data into the cache, potentially misleading users or affecting the integrity of shared content previews. The vulnerability does not require privileges or user interaction and has a medium severity rating with a CVSS 4.0 score of 6.9.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade to nuxt-modules og-image version 6.7.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
