Vendor/Project: makeplane
Product: plane

Description

Plane, an open-source project management tool, prior to version 1.4.0, has a vulnerability where unauthenticated GET requests to a specific API endpoint expose secret invitation tokens. This allows an attacker to retrieve invitation tokens intended for other users and join workspaces without invitation, gaining assigned roles. The issue is fixed in version 1.4.0.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-102981 describes an information exposure vulnerability in Plane versions before 1.4.0. The vulnerability arises because the WorkspaceJoinEndpoint's WorkSpaceMemberInviteSerializer exposes secret invitation tokens via unauthenticated GET requests to api/workspaces/{slug}/invitations/{pk}/join/. An attacker can obtain tokens meant for other users and use them to join workspaces without receiving an invitation, thereby gaining the roles assigned to those invitations. This security flaw is addressed in Plane version 1.4.0.

Potential Impact

An external attacker can access secret invitation tokens without authentication and use them to join workspaces unauthorized, gaining roles assigned by the invitation. This leads to unauthorized access and potential privilege escalation within the affected Plane deployments.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Plane to version 1.4.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
