CVE-2026-103293: CWE-22 Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') in MPG

0
Medium
Published: 10/03/2026 (10/03/2026, 06:31:12 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Product: MPG

Description

The MPG WordPress plugin before 4.2.3 does not validate that the dataset source supplied when importing a project is a remote URL before treating it as a local filesystem path and copying that file into a publicly accessible uploads folder. This makes it possible for users with the Editor role and above to read the contents of arbitrary files on the server, with the copied file then retrievable by unauthenticated visitors.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-103293 describes a path traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) in the MPG WordPress plugin versions prior to 4.2.3. The plugin does not properly validate the dataset source input during project import, treating local filesystem paths as safe and copying files into a public uploads directory. This enables users with Editor privileges or above to access arbitrary server files, which become accessible to unauthenticated users via the uploads folder.

Potential Impact

Users with Editor role or higher can exploit this vulnerability to read arbitrary files on the server. The copied files are placed in a publicly accessible uploads folder, allowing unauthenticated visitors to retrieve sensitive server files. This could lead to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information stored on the server.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in MPG plugin version 4.2.3. Users should upgrade to version 4.2.3 or later to remediate this vulnerability. Until upgraded, restrict Editor role permissions or avoid importing projects from untrusted sources to mitigate risk.
