Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-104641 affects the Simple Shopping Cart WordPress plugin prior to version 5.3.3. The plugin's default configuration does not verify that a PayPal payment notification corresponds to a payment received by the legitimate site owner's PayPal account. This insufficient verification of data authenticity (CWE-345) enables unauthenticated attackers to manipulate order status by submitting payment notifications from PayPal accounts they control, causing orders to be marked as paid without actual payment to the site owner.

Potential Impact

Attackers can cause orders to be marked as paid without legitimate payment to the site owner, potentially resulting in financial loss or fraudulent transactions. The vulnerability does not impact confidentiality or availability but affects the integrity of order payment status.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fixed version 5.3.3 or later should be applied to remediate this vulnerability. Since no patch links were provided in the input, users should verify availability of the official fix from the plugin vendor or WordPress plugin repository and update accordingly. Until patched, site owners should consider additional verification of PayPal payment notifications outside the plugin's default mechanism.
