Source: CVE Database V5
Product: Simple Shopping Cart

Description

The Simple Shopping Cart WordPress plugin before 5.3.3 does not verify submitted product prices against a value only the site owner can set, allowing users with the Contributor role and above to register attacker-chosen prices for existing products, which any visitor can then use to add those products to the cart at that price.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-104642 describes an insufficient verification of data authenticity (CWE-345) in the Simple Shopping Cart WordPress plugin versions 5.1.3 up to but not including 5.3.3. The flaw allows users with Contributor role or higher to submit product prices that are not validated against the legitimate prices set by the site owner. Consequently, attackers can register arbitrary prices for existing products, which can then be used by any visitor to add those products to the cart at these manipulated prices.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows integrity violation of product pricing data, enabling unauthorized price manipulation. While it does not impact confidentiality or availability, it can lead to financial loss or fraudulent transactions due to incorrect pricing. The CVSS score is low (2.7) reflecting limited impact scope and the requirement of Contributor-level privileges to exploit.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Simple Shopping Cart plugin to version 5.3.3 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation guidance is provided or necessary as the fix is available in the updated version.
