Source: CVE Database V5
Product: Envira Gallery

Description

The Envira Gallery WordPress plugin before 1.16.2 does not verify that an image identifier added to a gallery refers to a media attachment the caller is permitted to view, allowing any user able to create and edit a gallery (Author and above by default) to disclose the title and excerpt of other users' private, draft, pending and trashed posts that WordPress would otherwise withhold from them.

Technical Analysis

The Envira Gallery WordPress plugin prior to version 1.16.2 does not properly verify that an image identifier added to a gallery corresponds to a media attachment the caller is authorized to view. This lack of verification enables any user with the ability to create and edit galleries (Author role and above by default) to disclose metadata such as the title and excerpt of posts that are private, drafts, pending, or trashed, which WordPress would otherwise restrict from their view. This is classified as a CWE-200 Information Exposure vulnerability.

Potential Impact

Users with Author or higher privileges can access sensitive metadata of other users' posts that are not publicly visible, including private, draft, pending, and trashed posts. This exposure could lead to unintended disclosure of confidential or unpublished content information within the WordPress environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Envira Gallery plugin to version 1.16.2 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Since the plugin is not a cloud service, users must apply the update manually. Patch status is confirmed by the versioning information indicating that versions before 1.16.2 are affected.
