Description

CVE-2026-104944 is a high-severity vulnerability in the TP-Link Tapo C500 v2.0 device. It involves an out-of-bounds function-pointer dispatch in the TP-Link Device Protocol (TDP) daemon. An unauthenticated attacker with network access to the affected UDP service can send a specially crafted UDP datagram to cause an invalid indirect call, crashing the TDP daemon and resulting in a denial-of-service condition. No authentication or pairing is required to trigger this issue, making it accessible to unauthenticated attackers on the network.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-823) in TP-Link Tapo C500 v2.0 arises from an out-of-bounds pointer offset in the TDP daemon's function-pointer dispatch mechanism. An attacker can send a single unauthenticated UDP packet to cause an invalid indirect call, crashing the main TDP service. This leads to denial of service by disrupting normal device operation and availability. The attack requires no authentication, session establishment, or pairing, only network access to the UDP service.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an unauthenticated attacker to repeatedly crash the TDP daemon, causing denial of service and disrupting the device's normal operation and availability. There is no indication of code execution or data compromise, only service disruption.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official remediation information is provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restricting network access to the UDP service and isolating the device from untrusted networks may reduce exposure.
