Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: TP-Link Systems Inc.
Product: Tapo C500 v2.0

Description

TP-Link Tapo C500 v2.0 contains a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in its ONVIF PTZ SOAP handlers. An authenticated ONVIF client can trigger this by submitting too many preset-related elements, causing out-of-bounds writes on the stack and crashing the affected service. This results in a denial-of-service condition impacting camera management and PTZ functionality until recovery or restart.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-104945 is a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability (CWE-121) in TP-Link Tapo C500 v2.0's ONVIF PTZ SOAP handlers. An authenticated ONVIF client can exploit this by sending an excessive number of preset-related elements, causing out-of-bounds writes beyond fixed-size stack arrays. This leads to a crash of the affected service, resulting in denial-of-service. The vulnerability requires authentication and does not involve user interaction or network vector without authentication. No known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation causes a denial-of-service condition by crashing the ONVIF PTZ service on the affected camera, disrupting camera management and PTZ-related functionality until the service recovers or restarts. There is no indication of code execution or data disclosure from the provided information.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to authenticated ONVIF clients and monitor for unusual service crashes.
