Technical Analysis

Ghost, a Node.js CMS, contained an input validation flaw from versions 6.14.0 up to but not including 6.27.0 that permitted staff users to perform path traversal attacks using sequences like '.../...//'. This could enable unauthorized access to local files outside the designated data directories. The vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2026-105683 and is classified under CWE-35 (Path Traversal). It was resolved in version 6.27.0.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows staff users to read local files beyond the intended storage areas, potentially exposing sensitive information. The impact is limited to confidentiality loss with no integrity or availability impact reported. The CVSS score of 3.8 reflects a low severity risk.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Ghost to version 6.27.0 or later, where this path traversal vulnerability has been fixed. No additional mitigation is required once the update is applied.
