Vendor/Project: TP-Link Systems Inc.
Product: Tapo C210 v3.6

Description

TP-Link Tapo C210 version 3.60 has an authentication bypass vulnerability in its DS JSON API. A crafted JSON request mixing protected operations with public onboarding fields can cause inconsistent authorization checks, allowing unauthenticated attackers on the adjacent network to perform protected camera operations such as pan-tilt-zoom control without valid authentication. This vulnerability has a medium severity rating with a CVSS score of 5.3.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in TP-Link Tapo C210 v3.60 involves improper authentication (CWE-287) in the DS JSON API. Specifically, a crafted JSON request containing both protected operation fields and public onboarding-related fields can bypass module-level authorization checks. This inconsistency allows an attacker on the adjacent network to execute protected camera functions, including pan-tilt-zoom control, without a valid authenticated session.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker on the adjacent network can manipulate camera functionality, including pan-tilt-zoom controls, without proper authentication. This unauthorized control could compromise privacy and security by allowing manipulation of the camera's view.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict network access to trusted devices and monitor for suspicious activity related to camera control requests.
