Published: 10/06/2026 (10/06/2026, 16:56:55 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: payloadcms
Product: payload

Description

Payload is a free and open source headless content management system. In @payloadcms/db-mongodb versions before 3.87.0 and canary versions before 4.0.0-canary.20, an authenticated user who can update a document can modify fields that field-level write access control does not permit that user to change. The Postgres and SQLite adapters are not affected. This issue is fixed in versions 3.87.0 and 4.0.0-canary.20.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-106100 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in the PayloadCMS MongoDB adapter (@payloadcms/db-mongodb) affecting versions before 3.87.0 and canary versions before 4.0.0-canary.20. An authenticated user with document update permissions can bypass field-level write access controls and modify fields they are not authorized to change. The Postgres and SQLite adapters are not impacted. The issue is resolved in versions 3.87.0 and 4.0.0-canary.20.

Potential Impact

An attacker with authenticated access and document update privileges can escalate their permissions by modifying restricted fields, potentially leading to unauthorized data manipulation. The confidentiality impact is low, integrity impact is high, and availability is not affected. This could compromise data integrity within the affected PayloadCMS MongoDB installations.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to @payloadcms/db-mongodb version 3.87.0 or later, or to canary version 4.0.0-canary.20 or later, where the vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are indicated. The Postgres and SQLite adapters are not affected.
