Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: qax-os
Product: excelize

Description

CVE-2026-107215 is a high-severity vulnerability in the qax-os excelize Go library for Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Versions from 2.3.1 through 2.11.0 improperly allocate memory based on attacker-controlled values from OLE compound file streams without proper validation. This can lead to excessive memory allocation or negative length allocations, causing process crashes or memory exhaustion. No fix is currently available.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability arises because the extractPart function in excelize versions 2.3.1 to 2.11.0 allocates byte slices directly based on the CFB directory-entry streamSize for EncryptionInfo and EncryptedPackage without validating the sector chain or size domain. An attacker can craft an OLE compound file with a negative or extremely large stream size, causing make to allocate memory with a negative length or a multi-gigabyte size. This can result in a panic or exhaustion of process memory, leading to denial of service.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause the vulnerable application to panic or exhaust its memory resources by supplying a maliciously crafted OLE compound file with manipulated stream sizes. This results in denial of service due to process crashes or resource exhaustion. There is no indication of confidentiality or integrity impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official fix or patch is currently available for this vulnerability. Users should monitor the vendor advisory for updates. Until a fix is released, avoid processing untrusted or unauthenticated OLE compound files with the affected versions of excelize.
