CVE-2026-107223: CWE-789: Memory Allocation with Excessive Size Value in qax-os excelize
Description
CVE-2026-107223 is a high-severity vulnerability in the qax-os excelize Go library for Excel spreadsheet processing. Versions from 2.1.0 through 2.11.0 improperly handle column range expansion without validating against worksheet column limits. This allows an attacker to supply an oversized column max attribute, causing excessive CPU and memory consumption or out-of-memory conditions when the application processes the worksheet columns. No fix is currently available.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability arises because the flatCols function in excelize expands file-loaded column ranges without validating the Min and Max column indices against the worksheet's maximum column limit. Specifically, the SetColWidth function calls flatCols, which expands the xlsxCol.Min through xlsxCol.Max values without enforcing the MaxColumns limit. An attacker can craft a worksheet with an excessively large col max attribute. When the application invokes a column mutator, flatCols performs a deep copy and append operation for every column number up to the oversized max, leading to excessive CPU and memory usage or an out-of-memory (OOM) condition. This affects versions >=2.1.0 and <=2.11.0. No patch or fixed version is currently available as of the published date.
Potential Impact
An attacker can cause a denial of service by triggering excessive CPU and memory consumption or out-of-memory conditions in applications using vulnerable versions of excelize when processing maliciously crafted Excel worksheets. This can disrupt normal application operation and potentially crash the host process.
Mitigation Recommendations
No official fix or patch is currently available for this vulnerability. Users should avoid processing untrusted Excel files with vulnerable versions of excelize (>=2.1.0 <=2.11.0) until a patch is released. Monitor vendor advisories for updates and apply fixes promptly once available.
