Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: MariaDB
Product: server

Description

CVE-2026-107823 is a high severity vulnerability in MariaDB server affecting multiple versions. The issue involves improper encoding or escaping of embedded newline characters in usernames within the view FRM parser. An attacker with CREATE USER and CREATE VIEW WITH GRANT OPTION privileges could craft a username that includes additional view metadata, causing the parser to misinterpret part of the username as security metadata. This can lead to privilege escalation within the database. The vulnerability is fixed in specific later versions of MariaDB server.

Technical Analysis

MariaDB server versions from 10.6.1 up to but not including 10.6.28, 10.11.1 up to 10.11.19, 11.4.1 up to 11.4.13, 11.8.1 up to 11.8.9, 12.3.1 up to 12.3.3, and 13.0.1 up to 13.0.2 contain a vulnerability in the view FRM parser. The parser did not safely encode embedded newline characters in usernames, allowing an account with CREATE USER and CREATE VIEW WITH GRANT OPTION privileges to create a crafted username containing additional view metadata. This causes the parser to interpret part of the username as security metadata, potentially escalating database privileges. The issue is addressed in versions 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2.

Potential Impact

An attacker with existing CREATE USER and CREATE VIEW WITH GRANT OPTION privileges can exploit this vulnerability to escalate privileges within the MariaDB database server. This could lead to unauthorized access or modification of database objects and data, impacting confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the database system.

Mitigation Recommendations

This vulnerability is fixed in MariaDB server versions 10.6.28, 10.11.19, 11.4.13, 11.8.9, 12.3.3, and 13.0.2. Users should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate the issue. No vendor advisory content contradicts this; thus, upgrading is the recommended remediation.
