Published: 10/09/2026 (10/09/2026, 15:04:59 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: ILIAS-eLearning e.V.
Product: ILIAS

Description

ILIAS versions before 9.24, 10.12, and 11.5 contain an unrestricted file upload vulnerability in the QTI question import image handling component. Authenticated users with question pool import rights can upload crafted archives that write executable files, including .htaccess and PHP files, to the web-served image directory. This can lead to remote code execution as the web server user.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-108113 is an unrestricted file upload vulnerability affecting ILIAS eLearning software versions >=5.2.8 <9.24, >=10.0 <10.12, and >=11.0 <11.5. The flaw exists in the ilQtiMatImageSecurity component used during QTI question import image handling. Authenticated authors with question pool import permissions can upload a crafted archive that places executable files such as .htaccess and PHP scripts into the web-accessible image directory. This enables attackers to execute arbitrary code on the server with the privileges of the web server user.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows authenticated users with import rights to achieve remote code execution on the server hosting ILIAS. This can lead to full compromise of the web server environment, unauthorized access to data, and potential further attacks within the network.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict question pool import permissions to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious file uploads. Avoid exposing the image directory to execute uploaded files if possible.
