Technical Analysis

A buffer overflow vulnerability was identified in Kamailio's sipt module, specifically in the isup_get_calling_party function of src/modules/sipt/ss7_parser.c. The vulnerability arises from improper handling of the argument length, allowing an attacker to cause a buffer overflow remotely. This affects Kamailio versions 6.0.0 through 6.0.7 and 6.1.0 through 6.1.3. The issue is resolved by upgrading to versions 6.0.8 or 6.1.4, with the patch identified by commit 3667bebf8d0bea07ed16218fd921d07db87aeb21.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to a buffer overflow, which may allow an attacker to cause a denial of service or potentially execute arbitrary code remotely. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 6.9 (medium severity), indicating a significant but not critical risk. No known exploits are reported in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Kamailio to version 6.0.8 or 6.1.4 to apply the official fix for this buffer overflow vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
