Published: 10/12/2026 (10/12/2026, 18:31:52 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: GitoxideLabs
Product: gix-pack

Description

Gitoxide gix-pack before 0.75.0 contains an uncontrolled memory allocation vulnerability that allows remote attackers to abort the process by supplying a huge pack-header object count. Malicious remotes can serve a 12-byte pack header claiming 0xFFFFFFFF objects, forcing Tree::with_capacity to reserve hundreds of gigabytes and crash clone or fetch operations.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109351 is an uncontrolled memory allocation vulnerability in GitoxideLabs gix-pack prior to version 0.75.0. A malicious remote can send a 12-byte pack header claiming 0xFFFFFFFF objects, causing the Tree::with_capacity function to allocate hundreds of gigabytes of memory. This leads to denial of service by crashing clone or fetch processes.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows remote attackers to cause denial of service by crashing the gix-pack process through excessive memory allocation. This disrupts normal clone and fetch operations, potentially impacting availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to gix-pack version 0.75.0 or later where this issue is fixed. Patch status is confirmed by the affectedVersions field indicating versions before 0.75.0 are vulnerable and the issue is resolved in 0.75.0.
