Published: 10/13/2026 (10/13/2026, 18:17:05 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: mistralai
Product: mistral-vibe

Description

Mistral Vibe versions before 2.25.5 have a permission validation bypass vulnerability in the _extract_commands() function of bash.py. This flaw arises from a parsing discrepancy between tree-sitter-bash and bash when handling backslash-newline line continuations. An attacker can craft a command string that appears safe to the permission resolver but executes unauthorized commands in bash, potentially leading to arbitrary command execution.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109428 describes a permission validation bypass in mistral-vibe prior to version 2.25.5. The vulnerability is due to inconsistent parsing of backslash-newline line continuations between tree-sitter-bash and bash within the _extract_commands() function in bash.py. Specifically, tree-sitter-bash extracts only an allowlisted prefix (e.g., 'cd'), causing resolve_permission to grant permission, while bash concatenates the line continuation into a different hidden command (e.g., a curl request). This discrepancy allows attackers to execute unauthorized arbitrary commands.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to unauthorized command execution with permissions granted by resolve_permission, bypassing intended permission checks. This could allow attackers to perform arbitrary actions on affected systems, potentially compromising system integrity and confidentiality.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in mistral-vibe version 2.25.5. Users should upgrade to version 2.25.5 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
