Published: 10/14/2026 (10/14/2026, 14:16:34 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: OW2
Product: ASM

Description

OW2 ASM 3.1 before 9.11 contains an excessive memory allocation vulnerability in the asm-commons AdviceAdapter that allows attackers to exhaust memory by supplying crafted class files. Attackers can craft bytecode with many forward jump targets in constructors, causing unbounded stack copies in forwardJumpStackFrames and allocation of hundreds of megabytes, leading to denial of service.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in OW2 ASM 3.1 before 9.11 arises from the asm-commons AdviceAdapter's handling of bytecode with numerous forward jump targets in constructors. This triggers unbounded stack copying in the forwardJumpStackFrames function, resulting in excessive memory allocation of hundreds of megabytes. An attacker can exploit this by crafting malicious class files to cause a denial of service condition through memory exhaustion.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to cause a denial of service by exhausting memory resources on the affected system. This can disrupt normal operation of applications using the vulnerable ASM library.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, avoid processing untrusted or maliciously crafted class files with the affected versions of ASM.
