CVE-2026-112046: Loop with Unreachable Exit Condition ('Infinite Loop') in OW2 ASM

Published: 10/18/2026 (10/18/2026, 15:30:28 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: OW2
Product: ASM

Description

OW2 ASM versions 9.11 before 9.11.1 contain an infinite loop vulnerability in the Label.resolve() method. This occurs due to 16-bit forward-reference offsets truncating when rewritten methods exceed 64 KB, causing the ClassReader.accept() process to hang. Crafted class files that cause the transformed code size to grow beyond 65535 bytes can trigger this denial of service condition, impacting build tools, instrumenters, agents, or analyzers.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-112046 is an infinite loop vulnerability in OW2 ASM 9.11 prior to 9.11.1. The flaw arises in the Label.resolve() function where 16-bit forward-reference offsets are truncated when methods are rewritten and exceed 64 KB in size. This truncation leads to an unreachable exit condition in a loop, causing the ClassReader.accept() method to hang indefinitely. Attackers can exploit this by providing specially crafted class files that cause the transformed method code to exceed 65535 bytes, resulting in a denial of service against tools that rely on ASM for bytecode manipulation.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability causes a denial of service by hanging the ClassReader.accept() process, which can disrupt build tools, instrumentation frameworks, agents, or analyzers that use ASM. There is no indication of code execution or data corruption, but the infinite loop can halt processing and block dependent workflows.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in OW2 ASM version 9.11.1. Users should upgrade to version 9.11.1 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No alternative mitigations are indicated.
